Alvy Derks Foundation [ADF] was established to honour the life of Alvy Derks and to continue her Legacy of Empowering and Promoting the rights and aspirations of vulnerable groups across the globe. Alvy Derks Tai A Pin was born in Paramaribo, Suriname on July 9, 1937. She got married to Freek Derks on November 21, 1964; whom she had three children with (Inez, Erwin, and Axel).
Several children have benefited from her good will and social works on the African continent especially, Ghana in the western part of Africa.
Alvy Derks was a member of the Older Women's Network, Netherlands (OWN-NL) and as such has been involved in policy - making in relation to the elderly in the Netherlands since 1997.
Up until 2011 she was the president of the Older Women's Network, Europe (OWN,EU). Ms Derks has participated in the AGE plateform since its foundation, first in ADEG and later in SIEG,
on behalf of OWN,EU, keeping a watchful eye on the perspective for women and minorities. Ms Derks is a psychologist interested in subjects concerning health in general and mental health in
particular. Her areas of interest are healthy ageing, independent living for the elderly and eradication of abuse of the elderly. As a migrant her self , Ms Derks is concerned with the well
being of older migrants as they are often at risk of poverty and isolation. She believed in human beings doing well.
She passed away on 12th February, 2017.
Alvy Derks operates on basic tenets of humanity which highlights and create unique opportunities for capacity building, leadership development, empowerment and a sense of community between the rich, poor and vulnerable within the Ghanaian community. It is the ultimate dream and wish of all sundry at ADF to create a visible platform for achieving dreams, transforming, and changing lives of all vulnerable individuals and groups in Ghana and beyond.Source: Alvy Derks Foundation
